Packaging quotes vary wildly between suppliers when the inquiry is incomplete — not because prices differ, but because each supplier assumes different specifications. Fix the assumptions with these five blocks.

1. Dimensions and Structure

Internal dimensions of the box (or product dimensions to design around), and the structure type: tuck-end, rigid with magnetic closure, counter display, SRP case. If you have a dieline, send it; if not, say so — quoting without a structure is guesswork.

2. Material

Paperboard grade and weight (e.g. 350 g FBB), corrugated flute, or wrapped greyboard thickness. If unsure, describe the use case and the supplier can propose grades — but say that this is an open item, so quotes state which grade was assumed.

3. Print and Finishing

  • CMYK only, or CMYK + Pantone spot colors
  • Interior print: yes/no
  • Finishes: lamination (matte/gloss), spot UV, foil, emboss, soft-touch
  • Foam/PET inserts or printed inner structures?

4. Quantity and Tiers

Packaging has steep quantity curves. Give two or three tiers (e.g. 1000 / 5000 / 20000) for comparable pricing. Also state whether delivery is flat-shipped (fold-up) or assembled — it changes the price materially.

5. Logistics

Destination country, whether shipping is included or EXW, and packing specification (pieces per carton). For display products, pallet configuration matters and should be in the inquiry.
